👟13 Marathon Day Tips You Won’t Find in Training Books
My goddaughter is running her first full marathon 🤩 🥹 She's a chip off my block haha!
I texted her this morning with some thoughts for her from my serial-marathoning years, and then realized that they might benefit more people if I share them here too?
If you're a marathoner, thinking about doing one at some point, or have someone in your life who runs 26.2s, feel free to share these thoughts 🙏🏼
Here’s what I texted her:
“Eat your nice big marathon prep meal on the 10th to be able to use that energy on the 12th (we always run / function on the sleep and fuel from 2 days prior)
Get up early enough the morning of, to eat whatever you ate that helped you for your first 20 miler … meditate, and give your body plenty of time to process and poop!
Have compression socks in your car and a ton of water and any snacks
Park as close as possible to the FINISH line
Definitely immediately get in line to either pee in a porto-potty or wherever (YES bushes … everyone does) before you get in the start line to run
SKIP the 1st hydration station (it’s generally backed up and congested haha)
Plan on having your first sip at the 2nd hydration station
Unless you’re carrying pure coconut water with you, it’s totally fine to have one of your hydration stations be the fake chemical electrolyte shit
If people are gonna be cheering for you, have them around mile 21 or 22 where you need it most 🥹
Take like 3 room temperature waters at the finish line & a whole banana 🍌
and finish all of them!
… they’ll likely hand you only one bottle of water in your finish line bag … just go take another 2 from wherever 😬
Wherever you go out to eat afterwards, maybe order an omelette for the protein (she eats eggs 🍳), and drink water before you put tea in your system
You will likely have at least one dead toenail … and if you do multiple marathons, there could be a couple nailbeds that get damaged🦶🏼
These are simply badges of honor and totally normal
Go to FedEx Office or OfficeMax or somewhere and have your race bib laminated!
You can take a hole punch, and punch a little hole in the top of the lamination, and hang it on your wall with the medal🏅🤓 🤗
(I did that with all of my marathon bibs and medals, and had a little ceremony in my garage where I sang the national anthem for myself while I hung them on the wall 😬😂)
I’m so excited for your first marathon! 🤩 ”
🤍 Curious how to start taking results-creating control of your health … and what this process feels like? Let’s look at it together!
Be one of the few in The Shift ... a 30-day small group experience where perspective shifts move from aha moments into anchored, daily practices ... Where you’ll be supported, seen, and held accountable as you soften, balance, and expand into your next season.
This isn’t about going back into things that 'used to work for a while'. It’s about flowing forward — aligned, clear, and grounded in practices that actually stick.
We begin October 1, and space is intentionally intimate: just 6-7 spots for those who are ready to step into their next chapter.
If you feel yourself leaning in, this is your invitation. 🤍 Read more HERE
